Competitive Team

The Highland Dances of Scotland date back before recorded history. Traditionally these dances were danced by athletic males before and after battle. Women did not start competing in Highland Dance competitions until the early 1900's. Since then, Highland Dancing has been embraced by dancers of all ages across the world.
At competitions, dancers are assessed on timing, technique and general deportment.
Timing: the ability to dance to the rhythm of the music.
Technique: the execution of correct footwork in conjunction with head and arm positions.
General Deportment: the interpretation of the dance, balance, general appearance and comportment.
